“It is not possible to understand what the Church is outside of the mystery of the Spirit, that is, God’s self-giving.” Ronda Chervin
What exactly does the Spirit do for us?
He comes as the promise made by Jesus.
He comes to increase our awareness of holiness,
The need for this and the way to develop it.
He comes first and foremost as the Spirit of love,
Love come directly from our Father in heaven above,
Coming through the personality of the Lord Jesus.
It was the Spirit who made Jesus incarnate.
It is the Spirit active in the holy Eucharist,
Who changes the substance of the bread and wine
Into the most holy host awaiting us and the chalice of our salvation.
The Spirit comes to animate our faith.
To do so He develops our friendship with Jesus,
Showing us He is the Word incarnate,
Able to help us develop a sense of God’s presence.
“You send forth Your Spirit, they are created and You renew the face of the earth. May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in His works.” Psalm 104 v 30, 31
The Spirit comes as a prompt to our worship,
Making the love of Christ Jesus the focus.
The Spirit increases our nearness to the Trinity,
Whenever we pray or study the sacred Scriptures.
He resides within Church liturgy and sacramentally.
And being the all loving, self-giving Spirit,
He is most active when we reach forwards,
Conscious of the love of the Lord Jesus,
So as to offer this very same love to another.
The Spirit is concerned to build us up
As one people, a family being made holy,
God’s works in progress belonging to the Lord Jesus,
Formed by love, with love, all for the sake of love.
“ ‘Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you...’” Matthew 5 v 44
“ ‘...that you may be sons (daughters) of your Father in heaven, for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust’.” Matthew 5 v 45
Matthew 5 v 48 “Therefore you shall be perfect just as your Father in heaven is perfect.”
Please pray therefore.
